Del Monte has named William D. Pearce as the company’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, a newly created position.
Pearce, 45, whose new post begins immediately, oversees the marketing organization, such as pet and consumer marketing, marketing services, including market research, package design and promotion. He is based out of Del Monte’s San Francisco, CA, office and reports to Nils Lommerin, chief operating officer.
The hiring comes as part of the company’s move to further enhance its focus on marketing strategy, innovation and execution, a spokesperson said.
Pearce has more than 20 years of consumer packaged goods experience, including senior marketing roles at Taco Bell, Campbell Soup and Procter & Gamble. He most recently worked at a start-up company he founded focusing on medical technology.
Prior to that, he worked just under two years as chief marketing officer for Taco Bell, overseeing brand growth, building brand equity and improving profitability. Pearce is credited with leading the largest new product introduction in the company’s history.
Del Monte also said it will centralize all marketing functions in San Francisco, relocating about 100 marketing positions from Pittsburgh to San Francisco within a year.
