Ever wonder who earns what in the database marketing hierarchy?
The winners are database directors, who oversee the development and implementation of database marketing solutions. The top salary reported for them is $210,000, according to the latest salary survey from Crandall Associates Inc., New York.
Most are making less than that, but they still lead the field, according to Crandall.
Directors with seven or more years of experience are averaging $137,400 to $158,800. Those with four to seven years are in the $117,000-$142,300 range. Novices, those with up to three years in the business, are pulling down $106,700 to $125,000.
Ranked second are database managers, who are described by Crandall as “the toast of all marketers.” These folks, who design and/or enhance databases, earn a top of $145,000.
Managers with seven or more years of experience are earning salaries in the $95,400-117,700 range. Professionals with four to seven years are averaging $80,600 to $97,700. The low range for those at the bottom of the experience ladder is: $68,700-$81,100.
Sitting at the managers’ right hands are database analysts, who interpret results. The highest salary reported in this field is $120,000. Analysts with seven-plus years of experience are earning $77,000-$95,100, and those with one to three years command $46,500 to $63,800.
And the techies?
Data processing managers, who supervise data processing operations and personnel, can earn up to $115,000. The low range is $65,100-$73,600, and the high range $79,000-$88,000.
Meanwhile, corporate list managers the people responsible for recommending lists inhouse and for pricing and marketing of their house files for outside rental, top out at $98,000. The highest range, for managers with seven or more years in the game, is $56,700-$65,500. Managers with four to seven years earn $48,900-$58,300, and those with one to three years get $45,500-$56,900.
