AN INTERNET SITE that produces coupons from users’ local retailers has begun tests in the Boston area.

The site-Coolsavings.com-and Super Coups, Avon, MA, a subsidiary of co-op mailer Advo Inc., have teamed up to roll out the coupon program nationwide June 15.

Coolsavings now offers Internet surfers coupons from national retailers such as J.C. Penney, Chuck E. Cheese and Kids ‘R’ Us.

Once the program is introduced across the country, the site currently maintained by Super Coups (www.supercoups.com) will be converted into an information-only site, offering tips for potential franchisees and advertisers about joining the network. Consumers who want coupons will be referred via a link to Coolsavings.com.

During the test period, Boston-based visitors will see the new system, while others will see the Super Coups setup that still includes coupons.

When consumers sign up at the site, they’re asked to give their e-mail addresses, ZIP codes and areas of interest, allowing the site to generate targeted coupons. Each month, consumers receive an e-mail notifying them that they can download and print coupons of interest from local Super Coups clients such as pizza parlors, dentists and auto services. Super Coups serves 30 regional areas throughout the United States.

Coolsavings has 2.5 million registered members on its e-mail list. Super Coups wants to boost that to 3 millionby year’s end.

“By reaching an online audience, we can help our clients extend the reach of their campaign,” says Super Coups president/ CEO Don McKenzie.

Coolsavings drives consumers to its site through the use of online banner ads. Super Coups airs television commercials promoting the site. Plans call for advertising the site in its print co-op envelopes this spring. -KO
