Chrysler Offers Fixed Gas Prices with Auto Deals

Chrysler is offering car buyers fixed prices at the gas pump for the next three years if they purchase a new car through June 2.

Chrysler’s “Let’s Refuel America” program offers people who buy any model Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge a fixed rate of $2.99 per gallon whenever they buy gas for three years from the date of purchase. Alternatively, car buyers can receive a flat cash bonus, depending on the price of the vehicle and the demand for it, according to Chrysler spokesperson Stuart Schorr.

The offer applies to new 2008 or 2009 Dodge, Chryslers or Jeep vehicles.

Customers who participate and enroll in the program receive a gas card that lowers the cost of their gas purchase. Chrysler will recoup the cost of gas purchases above $2.99 a gallon to car buyers who opt for the price guarantee.

Purchase of some models can yield the gas price guarantee and a $3,000 bonus, including the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram.

“It’s a service that people can’t buy anywhere else,” Schorr said. “It gets people shopping who are on the sideline because of the uncertainty of the price of gas.”

Chrysler launched the promotion with TV ads for the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brands last week along with a print campaign and a “Let’s Refuel America” sub-site tied to its main Web site, www.chrysler.com.

BBDO designed the ad campaign for Chrysler. Schorr said local dealerships had also produced in-market campaigns of their own.

Depending on results, Chrysler may extend the campaign beyond the June 2 deadline.

“When you have a great program that customers are responding to, you hate to walk away from it,” Schorr said. “But we’ll have to evaluate that at the end of the month.”
