Chrysler Group Marketing Exec Steps Down

The Chrysler Group is looking for some new blood after one of its top marketing executives said he would leave at the end of the month.

George Murphy, Chrysler’s senior vice president of global brand marketing, told company executives he is leaving to pursue other opportunities. A replacement has not yet been named.

Murphy, 51, joined the group in 2001 as senior vice president/global brand marketer from Ford Motor Co., where he worked two years as the general marketing manager. He was behind Chrysler’s recent brand campaign and tagline “Engineered Beautifully.”

Murphy is the latest executive to leave since parent DaimlerChrysler said this month it was selling more than 80% of the company to Cerberus Capital Management.

Steve Landry, who Chrysler named executive vice president for North American sales, global marketing, service and parts May 1, will continue to oversee marketing initiatives for the company and fill in for Murphy for the short term, spokesman David Elsshoff said.
