While “official” June search engine market share figures from the likes of comScore and Nielsen haven’t been released yet, early indicators from other sources seem to indicate a strong start for Microsoft’s Bing.
Net Applications, for one, has pegged Bing’s market share at 5.31 percent for the month of June.
It pegs Google’s market share at 81.22 percent, Yahoo!’s at 9.21 percent, AOL’s at 1.74 percent and Ask.com’s at 0.84 percent.
Microsoft Live Search now has a meager 0.66 percent of the market, according to Net Applications.
As of early Tuesday morning, Bing had 5.65 percent of the U.S. search engine market, according to StatCounter. Google held 80.35 percent of the market, while Yahoo! had 11.82 percent.
Numbers from comScore and Nielsen will likely be a bit different from these figures, as they usually are, but they are sure to signal similar success for Bing.
On Bing’s official blog, the search engine is reporting that it saw 8 percent growth in the number of unique users in June compared to the previous month, “which is an important indicator that you are trying Bing and the word is spreading,” according to the post, titled “bing at month one.”
“Based on our own polling, we have also seen the number of people “likely to recommend” Bing double in our debut month,” the post added.
This doesn’t spell trouble for Google just yet, however. Recent Nielsen figures show that Google was the top Web brand in June, attracting a unique audience of 147.8 million visitors in the U.S.
Yahoo! was second with 133.1 million unique visitors, followed by MSN/Windows Live/Bing with 111.4 million unique visitors.
Microsoft, AOL Media Network, YouTube, Facebook, Fox Interactive Media, Apple and Wikipedia rounded out the list of the top 10 Web brands, according to Nielsen.
