The Altoona Curve of the Double-A Eastern League held its “Stink Night—Our Ode to Odor” promotion last night at Blair County Ballpark.
Among the highlights:
The first 1,000 fans through the gates received a Scratch ‘n Sniff sticker featuring a variety of different odors. The Curve’s in-stadium scoreboard show was broadcast live from the ballpark’s garbage room. Video clips of Looney Tunes’ Pepe LePew and Peanuts’ Pigpen were also shown. Foods such as sauerkraut and baked beans were sold at the concession stands.
The Curve also unveiled the “Unofficial Museum of Stink,” featuring such bad smelling items as game-used baseball caps, sardines, garlic, limburger cheese, shoes, onions and hardboiled eggs.
“There’s a lot in the world that stinks, both figuratively and literally, and we brought it all together for one stinking night,” Curve GM Todd Parnell said in a release. Parnell and the rest of the front office staff vowed not to shower for 24 hours prior to the game.
