Internet company AOL has named John Burbank chief marketing officer, a newly created position.
In his new role, Burbank will be responsible for developing and executing AOL’s brand marketing strategies and programs. He reports to Randy Falco, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer.
Burbank previously worked as vice president, marketing for AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Cingular Wireless LLC and then AT&T. During that time, he created the “Signal Bars” campaign, and managed mobile programs with Internet companies including MySpace, Facebook and YouTube.
He also built new teams for Hispanic marketing, youth marketing, market research and media innovation.
“John will help consumers better understand the unique products and programs we offer, and he will help ensure that AOL addresses the needs of our consumers and our advertising partners,” Falco said in a statement.
The company plans to use the new Burbank’s hiring to strengthen the brand and broaden its image.
“AOL also has tremendous momentum behind its new Web strategy, making this the perfect time to join the company and tell its story to consumers and advertisers,” Falco said.
