AFLAC Taps Coke Exec for CMO Role

The American Family Life Assurance Co. (AFLAC), known for the quacking white duck that stars in its commercials, has tapped a former Coca-Cola exec to insure the company’s success in marketing.

Jeffrey M. Herbert was appointed to the newly created position of senior-VP, CMO yesterday. A 20-year marketing and branding veteran, Herbert will be responsible for leading the company’s strategic marketing efforts in the U.S., which includes national advertising, product development, market development, consumer research and sponsorships.

Prior to joining AFLAC, Herbert held executive positions at Coca-Cola Co. where he worked as senior VP-marketing, providing strategic direction for the beverage maker’s North American portfolio, and as VP-marketing and innovation. He has also served in executive marketing positions for the Campbell Soup Co., the Zyman Group, and Kraft General Foods.
