Convenience retailer 7-Eleven last week began offering a line up of more than 50 healthy snack products headlined by Atkins controlled-carb selections.
The products, merchandised in a designated section of each store, feature controlled-carb, low-fat, low-calorie and high-protein snacks. Half of the products are new to the retailer, including 12 Atkins-brand items: Atkins Bakery bread, Atkins Crunchers chips, Morning Start bars and Advantage meal replacement bars and shakes. Other brands include EAS, Dr. Phil’s Shape Up, Carb Solutions, LeanSource, Slim Fast, Z Carb, Carb Slim, Metabolife and Power Protein.
“We’re always looking for new products that meet our customers’ needs,” said Kenneth Fries, 7-Eleven spokesman. “Low-carb programs look like they’re here to stay, so our customers can expect to see a growing number of choices.”
Called the “Better Choices, Better Year,” program, the new choices are featured at all 5,800 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
Also joining the low-carb craze, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts introduced Low Carb Inspirations to its “Best-4-Breakfast” menu. All 1,000 Holiday Inns nationwide are participating.
Guests can choose from two initial menu items: The Complete Omelet, a three-egg, cheese and vegetable omelet or South of the Border, two made-to-order eggs accompanied by grilled chicken, avocado and salsa garnish. In February, Holiday Inn Express motels will promote carrot-walnut muffins with 9 grams of carbs at all 1,300 locations.
The program was developed in conjunction with culinary firm M.D.T Ltd.
