US Airways next week boldly goes where no airline has gone before: space.
In an alliance with Arlington, VA, neighbor Space Adventures, the airline will host a sweepstakes for its Dividend Miles frequent-flier members, who earn entries every time they book a business trip after first registering at usairways.com/dm/spaceadventures. The effort runs through Sept. 30.
The grand prize is a trip at least 62 miles into the atmosphere. First-place prize is a trip to the "edge of space" (or 80,000 feet) in a MiG-25 jet. Second-place prize is a zero-gravity flight for two at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia. US Air handles in-house, with fulfillment from Manhasset, NY-based Marden-Kane.
Space Adventures is currently taking reservations for sub-orbital flights to space aboard a private spacecraft in 2004 and 2005. A seat costs $100,000. Dividend Miles members will be able to use their miles for space flights.
