R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., Chicago, will shut a plant in Old Saybrook, CT and lay off 500 employees by July 2002, according to published reports. R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., Chicago, will shut a plant in Old Saybrook, CT and lay off 500 employees by July 2002, according to published reports.
Concurrently, the commercial printing firm will break ground on a 76,000-foot expansion to its Lancaster, PA plant on July 16 of this year. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2001.
The addition will require the company to hire 100 new employees in Lancaster, although according to Reuters a few of the positions will be filled by workers transferred from the Old Saybrook plant.
