Time Life Inc. has agreed to pay $30,000 to resolve alleged violations of Pennsylvania’s Consumer Protection Law and Telemarketer Registration Act, according to a statement from acting attorney general Jerry Pappert.

The state’s complaint, which resulted in Time Life’s agreeing to an “Assurance of Voluntary Compliance,” stemmed from 30 consumers who claimed they were illegally called between November 2002 and March 2003 and offered magazine subscriptions, books and compact discs. The consumers were on the state’s do-not-call list, and the Attorney General’s office did not find any record that the company had purchased the list.

As part of the agreement, Time Life did not admit any wrongdoing, but in addition to the fee is required to comply with the Telemarketing Registration Act; obtain Pennsylvania’s do-not-call list before undertaking any future telemarketing; and pay $2,000 to the state for investigation costs.

Each of the consumers who filed a complaint will receive $100.
