Holiday 2001 online retail and travel sales will reach approximately $11.9 billion dollars, 11% more than last year's $10.8 billion dollars, according to Jupiter Media Metrix.
Jupiter also predicted that 46 million people would shop online this year, up nearly 8% from 36 million in 2000.
"Because fewer Americans will travel via air this year, and those that do will be less likely to carry armloads of packages through tight airport security, there's an increased likelihood that consumers will buy from online and catalog retailers," said Jupiter senior analyst Ken Cassar, in a statement.
