Online Advertising For 2003 Reaches Exceeds $7 Billion

Online advertising revenue reached $7.3 billion in 2003, up from $6 billion in 2002, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). Online ad revenue peaked in 2000 with just more than $8 billion. After showing small gains through the first three quarters, 2003 ad revenue spiked in the fourth quarter, reaching $2.2 billion. Fourth quarter ad revenue accounted for 30% of total 2003 ad revenue.

After showing small gains through the first three quarters, 2003 ad revenue spiked in the fourth quarter, reaching $2.2 billion.

Fourth quarter ad revenue accounted for 30% of total 2003 ad revenue. Moreover, over the same period a year ago, 2003 fourth-quarter ad revenue jumped 38% (or $602 million).

In addition, keyword search advertising accounted for 40% of 2003 fourth quarter revenue and 35% of total 2003 revenue, up from 21% of fourth-quarter 2002 revenue.
