Blair Corp., a Warren, PA-based apparel cataloger, reported that net income nearly tripled, from $2.3 million to $6.9 million for the quarter ended March 31 overm the same period a year ago. First quarter sales of $130.1 million were 6.6% ahead of sales of $122 million in first quarter 1999.
The firm attributed these results to increased response rates to catalog and letter style mailings, lower return levels and reduced liquidation costs as compared to a year ago.
Blair also plans to launch its Web site during the summer. Initially it will focus on clearance sales, and will add the remainder of its product lines in time for the holiday season. The company is also planning to launch Crossing Pointe, a women's apparel catalog and Internet site, in mid-June.
