Mobile Content Provider Settles with Florida AG

A Hong Kong company that distributes content for cell phones will pay $1 million as part of a voluntary cyberfraud settlement with Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum.

MobileFunster Inc., doing business as FunMobile, has also agreed to conspicuously disclose prices and purchase terms for content on all online ordering screens.

A general investigation by McCollum’s office revealed that thousands of cell phone customers have been hit with unauthorized charges for content or services, including ringtones or wallpaper.

For its part, FunMobile often failed to clearly describe the price and terms in its online advertising, the AG’s office said.

The $1 million will fund additional cyberfraud investigations.

“As the first content provider to adopt advertising standards created by this office, FunMobile has clearly stated its intent to lead mobile content providers in setting new marketing standards that will benefit Florida consumers and cell phone users nationwide,” McCollum said in a statement.
