Postmaster General William J. Henderson, moving to bring the U.S. Postal Service into the 21st Century, has created six new executive positions within the organization and expanded the role of the postal service's the top lawyer.
Henderson, who made the disclosure late Tuesday, gave no indication of when, or if, he will name a deputy postmaster general to succeed Michael S. Coughlin, who retired in July after 32 years with the USPS.
Commenting on his first major management changes since taking office nearly a year and a half ago, the PMG said the USPS "must continue to change the way it does business today in order to remain the high-quality, low-cost supplier of choice in the future."
The new positions and the people filling them, he added, will help the postal service to "revolutionize" by building on its "strong Internet presence."
The new positions are: senior vice president sales; senior vice president, human resources; president, package business; vice president, e-Commerce; vice president, e-Payments, and vice president, strategic marketing.
Named to those posts were: Gail Sonnenberg, senior vice president, sales, from vice president, tactical marketing and sales development; General Counsel Mary Elcano, executive vice president, human resources; John Kelly, president, package business from five president, expedited and package services; Robert Krause, vice president, e-Commerce from vice president, core business marketing; Stephen Kearney, vice president, e-Payments, and John Wargo, vice president, strategic marketing from vice president, customer relations.
James Wade was named to succeed the retiring James Grubiak as vice president, international business. He served as manager, international marketing and sales under Grubiak.

Lopez was promoted to vice president, Southwest operations, from Arizona district manager.
