Oh, some may grouse at the location of this year’s DMA annual conference. Yes, unless you’re inside a theme park, Orlando isn’t as easily walkable a city as San Francisco or Chicago. And unlike New Orleans, it isn’t known for fabulous restaurants suitable for wining and dining clients. 9Unless, that is, your clientele really likes standing in long lines with toddlers for over-priced Goofy Burgers—then you’re good to go.)
And yeah, it’s warm out. Too warm for business attire. But perk up, boys and girls, because there’s lots of good things in the land of sunshine too. I wanted to do a Top 10 list to illustrate my point, but we couldn’t afford a top 10. Hey, times are tough—budget cuts are everywhere. So here are the top six reasons Florida is a good place for this year’s show.
6. Should you have to drag yourself out of bed at some ungodly early hour for a breakfast meeting, at least the orange juice will be fresh.
5. If you see large rodents scurrying about the exhibit hall, chances are they’re employees of the Walt Disney Co. and not signs the convention center needs better pest control.
4. Unlike many humans, alligators love telemarketing. Especially offers for vinyl siding. Go figure.
3. The Echo Awards presentation in Orlando is the perfect time to break out those dress flip-flops you’ve been saving for a special occasion.
2. You’ll have easy access to people who wear large fake animal heads professionals, a list universe rife with untapped potential.
And with apologies to David Letterman, the number-one reason Orlando is a happening conference town:
1. During the party at Seaworld, Shamu will offer new selects and double opt-out.
Have a magical show.
