Hang-Up for Mississippi’s Do-Not-Call Law

Mississippi lawmakers are in an uproar over the apparent lapsing of the state’s do-not-call law.

Mississippi lawmakers are in an uproar over the apparent lapsing of the state’s do-not-call law.

The Mississippi Telephone Solicitation Act, which requires renewal every two years, will expire on June 30, following the failure of the House and Senate Utility conference committee to reauthorize it, according to the Daily Leader.

The reason is that the legislators got into a dispute over an amendment that would have required the state’s Public Service Commission to regulate false statements against public officials and political candidates.

The PSC has asked Gov. Haley Barbour to add renewal of the bill to the agenda of a scheduled special session, the Daily Leader reported.
