Federated Department Stores Inc. will close five distribution centers this summer, laying off 750 employees.
The parent company of Macy’s.com and other direct marketers said these layoffs, which will take place in June and August, are “part of a nationwide consolidation to maintain efficiency and reduce duplication”
Closing in June will be distribution centers in: *Manchester, CT (298,000 square feet; 120 employees) *Baltimore, MD (421,000 square feet; 200 employees)
Closing in August will be distribution centers in: *Aurora, CO (291,000 square feet; 150 employees) *Portland, OR (340,000 square feet; 250 employees) *Salt Lake City (270,000 square feet; 30 employees)
Responsibility for merchandise handled by these facilities will be shifted to other distribution centers operated by Federated in each region of the country.
Federated said in a statement it will seek opportunities to offer affected employees transfers to other Federated facilities as well as offer them severance packages.
