DMA Chooses The Buffkin Group For CEO Search

The Direct Marketing Association has named The Buffkin Group to help with its search for a full-time president and CEO.

The Direct Marketing Association has named The Buffkin Group to help with its search for a full-time president and CEO.

Bob Allen, the former CEO of Vermont Country Store, has led the DMA on an interim basis since Feb. 5. Allen replaced John A. Greco, the DMA’s former president and CEO, who left the organization in mid-January, more than five months before the end of his contract.

According to a DMA statement, The Buffkin Group was chosen on the basis of its “rich knowledge of the direct marketing and digital community, as well as an in-depth understanding of what this search will require from an evolutionary standpoint.”

The Buffkin Group will work with the DMA’s search committee, which consists of: DMA chair Kelly B. Browning, who is executive VP and COO of the American Institute for Cancer Research; current DMA board chair Eugene R. Raitt, senior VP of Accident and Health and CMO of Asia Allied World Assurance Company; David S. Williams, Chairman and CEO of Merkle, Inc.; Brian Wolfe, executive VP of consumer marketing and sales for Time, Inc.; Steven Dapper, chairman and founder of Hawkeye; Don McKenzie, president and CEO of Direct Group; Matt Blumberg, CEO and chairman of Return Path.

They are joined by Sue R.E. Geramian, the DMA’s senior VP and chief communications officer.

“The Buffkin Group has the network and contacts within the marketing community to focus the search in that arena while covering the association marketplace to ensure that exceptional candidates in that space are properly vetted and considered,” DMA board chairman Eugene Raitt said in a statement.

Raitt continued “The new DMA President & CEO will need a comprehensive understanding of the association marketplace; a deep knowledge of direct marketing practices; management skills; visibility within the industry; and outstanding credentials across a wide range of traditional and new media, particularly digital and social channels. Their understanding of direct marketing practices and grasp of direct marketing’s impact on the US economy are critical.”
