Eddie Bauer Holdings Inc. reported a net loss of $35.6 million for first quarter 2006, compared with a net loss of $8.6 million a year ago. The company’s revenue fell from $221.9 million to $194.5 million. The quarter ended April 1.
The Redmond, WA-based catalog/retailer’s direct sales fell from $62.8 million a year ago to $54.6 million, while its retail revenue dropped from $143.7 million to $125.9 million, with the remainder of its revenue coming from shipping, licensing and overseas ventures.
According to Eddie Bauer, the dropoff in sales was due to “too many changes n the Fall/Holiday 2005 collection.” The company is taking steps to revitalize the Eddie Bauer brand as part of a turnaround plan.
