Delia’s Inc. posted a net loss of $5 million for the second quarter compared to a net loss of $5.1 million in the prior year.
The apparel direct marketer and retailer reported revenue of $58.1 million for the quarter ended Aug. 2, an 10.8% increase over $52.4 million last year.
The New York company’s direct segment posted revenue of $34.5 million for the quarter, a 4.3% increase over $3.1 million in the prior year, accounting for 59.4% of total revenue.
The firm said its gross margin increased to 35.3% in the second quarter, compared to 34.6% in the prior year.
Management attributed to higher merchandise margins which were partially offset by higher shipping costs in the direct segment.
In addition, the company said its selling, general and administrative expenses were $25.3 million compared to $23.4 million last year. Management attributed this primarily to its ability to leverage selling and other operating expenses on increased sales.
