Canada Post Corp. reported yesterday that it generated $54 million (Canadian) in consolidated net income for the 2007 calendar year. It processed more than 11.8 billion pieces of mail last year.
Canada Post generated $7.5 billion in consolidated revenues in 2007, including more than $1.4 billion in revenues generated by direct marketing.
Last year marked the 13th consecutive year of profitability for Canada Post. That’s despite a 54% increase in the cost of its operations to $7.3 billion during 2007.
Based on its financial performance for 2007, Canada Post has declared it will pay its shareholder the Canadian government a $22 million dividend.
The Canadian post office paid the government a $48 million dividend for 2006. Over the last five years it has paid Canada's government $267 million in dividends.
