In Brief: IWCO and Business Ink, 1-800-Flowers, Under Armour, More

Business Ink and IWCO make a deal, 1-800-Flowers and Under Armour announce quarterly results, and Pets United changes its name

* Business Ink Co., a provider of print and distribution services, has signed a letter of intent to buy the Fort Worth, TX, facility of marketing solutions provider IWCO Direct. IWCO acquired the facility when it bought Transcontinental Direct’s U.S. operations earlier this month.

* At $155.5 million for the three months ended March 28, sales from continuing operations at 1-800-Flowers.com were up a scant $1 million from the comparable period of last year. The gifts marketer did narrow its loss from continuing operations considerably, however, to $5.9 million from $64.3 million a year ago. Its gourmet food and gift baskets segment, which includes the Popcorn Factor, Cheryl & Co., and Geerlings & Wade brands, performed well, with sales up 13.9% for the quarter.

* Thanks in large part to a 73% jump in catalog and online sales, sports apparel brand Under Armour enjoyed a 15% rise in first-quarter revenue, to $229.4 million for the three months ended March 31. Net income climbed 81%, to $7.2 million.

* Reflecting its expansion beyond the pet-supplies market, online marketer Pets United has changed its name to TABcom. The company’s e-commerce sites include Dog.com, Garden.com, and Solar.com.
