Blog Aims to Smear DiGuido

Someone has apparently started a blog in an attempt to smear Al DiGuido, the president of e-mail service provider Epsilon Interactive.

Someone has apparently started a blog in an attempt to smear Al DiGuido, the president of e-mail service provider Epsilon Interactive.

An e-mail arrived in the inboxes of Direct and three other trade reporters last night stating the following:

“Dear Press -

“Being the King of Email Marketing I decided the press was not doing a good enough job of covering my favorite topic....me.

“So I have started a Blog detailing my rise to the throne - enjoy!

“Until Next Time -

“Pal DoDido

Clicking through the link provided in the e-mail at http://kingofemailmarketing.blogspot.com revealed a blog containing two grammatically tortured, misspelled and obscene posts in which the writer brags of, among other things duping some venture capitalists into hiring him.

A response to the e-mail from this reporter saying “So what's the headline of our first story on you to be? ‘Illiterate Idiot Starts E-mail Blog?’ prompted the following response:

“Mr. Magill - thank you - I like your suggestion. But I think you are missing the point - Although I have put you in my recent posting -

“Until Next Time -

“pAL Dodido

At that point, the lower case “p” and the last name made it clear the author was trying to trigger DiGuido’s name in readers’ minds.

The blogger also claims to have been in publishing before becoming "The King of E-mail Marketing." DiGuido worked for Ziff Davis before going into the e-mail industry.

Reached at his office in New York, a clearly shaken DiGuido said he had no idea who would be angry enough to try and smear him with a fake blog.

“Somebody has a real axe to grind,” he said.
