Barnesandnoble.com Inc., has reported net sales for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, of $49.1 million, an increase of 215% from $15.6 million for the same period last year. Sales for the nine months ended Sept. 30, were $120.4 million, up 235% from $36.0 million in the corresponding period a year ago.
The net loss for the quarter was $21.9 million, compared with a net loss of $18.6 million for the period ended Sept. 30, 1998. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 1999, the net loss was $64.0 million, compared with a loss of $51.8 million for the corresponding period in 1998.
The number of first-time customers was a record 581,000 during the third quarter, bringing the cumulative customer account total to 2.9 million. Repeat customer orders increased to 63% in the third quarter, compared with 60% as of June 30.
