Banta Corp.’s first quarter revenue slipped from $386.3 million a year ago to $383.6 million during first quarter 2006. The Menasha, WI-based printing and supply chain management firm’s net earnings dropped from $16 million to $13.7 million. The quarter ended March 31.
Among its divisions, the direct marketing’s revenue and earnings were above those of 2005’s first quarter, as spending on direct mail promotions remained high. The catalog division reported lower revenue and earnings, as several client wins in this category did not manifest themselves in new business.
The print sector, which includes direct mail and catalog, as well as the publications, literature and book divisions, generated $280 million, up slightly from $275 million a year ago. It also reported earnings of $16.1 million, down slightly from $16.5 million.
The supply chain management sector’s revenue slipped from $111 million to $103 million, while operating earnings fell from $12.4 million to $11.4 million.
