Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, said that benefits of the firm’s free-shipping offer won’t be fully apparent for at least a few years, according to wire reports.
During a shareholder meeting, Bezos noted that customers have been slow to take advantage of the offer, which waives postage and handling costs on all orders above $100, the Associated Press reported.
Bezos said that the timeframe for Amazon to realize enough new customers and increases in sales for the promotion to be effective was around five years, according to the AP. Bezos also said that he wished the Seattle-based retailer had started on the free-shipping promotion earlier in the company’s life.
