The Federal Trade Commission gave itself and the Federal Communications Commission a seal of approval on how they are handling new telemarketing regulations in a report to Congress.

"On the whole, the agencies have created consistent and complementary regulatory schemes, not only with regard to Do Not Call and call abandonment, but in areas such as calling time restrictions and transmission of Caller ID information," said the FTC report.

The FTC noted some differences between the agencies’ regulations, and said the two agencies should closely monitor them.

The report, submitted to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, is required by Congress. It is supposed to contain a discussion of inconsistencies between the two agencies’ regulations; the effects the inconsistencies could have on consumers and industry, and recommendations for resolving these problems. The FCC is required to submit a similar report.
