Ken Brindley, a senior sales associate at Acxiom Corp., died after attempting to rescue a swimmer off the coast of Florida. Brindley was 36.
According to news reports, Brindley drowned while attempting to rescue Larry Lamotte, who was swimming in Grayton Beach, a beach community near Destin, FL. Lamotte, who according to published reports had been a CNN bureau chief, did not survive.
"Anyone who knew Ken was not surprised by the reports that he risked his own safety to help someone he didn’t even know," said Dale Ingram, a spokesman for Acxiom.
Brindley had been with Acxiom since 1988, according to Ingram. He celebrated his 15th anniversary with the company last week.
According to reports, Brindley, who was still alive when pulled from the surf by beach patrolmen, died Monday afternoon at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. His family, who had been vacationing with him, were at his bedside, reports said.
Brindley, who lived in Conway, AR, is survived by his wife, Melanie Sikes Brindley, and two young children.
