New York-based 800America.co acquired teen loyalty portal YOUtopia.com on Friday.
YOUtopia.com, founded in 1997, targets teens and young adults ages 13-25 and has 750,000 members in the United States and Canada. Through participation in surveys, games and other areas of the site, members earn "YouDollars" redeemable for gift certificates at partners such as Barnes & Noble, Cineplex Odeon Theaters, Sharper Image and HMV.
Last month, 800America.com acquired WizardWorld.com, an e-commerce site for enthusiasts of comic books, action figures and collectible cards and games. Wizard Entertainment Group will continue to manage the e-commerce sales and fulfillment, said Gareb Shamus, chairman and CEO of Congers, NY-based Wizard Entertainment.
Wizard World has 325,000 registered users. Editors of Wizard Entertainment publications -- such as Wizard magazine, ToyFare, InQuest and Anime Invasion — will contine to provide editorial content for the site.
For the third quarter of 2001, 800America.com reported revenue of $5.9 million, compared to $3.9 million for the same period in 2000. Financial terms of both acquisitions were not disclosed.
800America.com is parent company to several business-to-business and business-to-consumer e-commerce and technology companies, including OneTwoClick.com, a consumer shopping portal; Rothman Closeouts, a B-to-B wholesale surplus marketplace; CS-Live.com, a customer service provider; and Igain.com, a customer rewards vendor.
