The Federal Trade Commission warned yesterday that some consumers and business executives have received e-mails purportedly from the FTC that are really attempts to install spyware.
According to the FTC, the e-mail poses as an acknowledgement of a complaint by the recipient and comes with an attachment that installs spyware on the recipient’s computer if opened.
The e-mail is also personalized, containing the name and the business of the recipient, the FTC warned.
The message says: “Attached you will find a copy of your complaint. Please print a hard copy of the complaint for your records in the upcoming investigation.”
