Company Announces E-mail Marketing Service for Small Businesses

Webmail.us, a company that provides e-mail hosting services for small business, today announced it is expanding its offerings to include e-mail marketing software on demand.

The Blacksburg, VA-based company is offering the service to its 45,000 customers on a subscription basis. It is charging an unspecified fee based on the size of customers’ e-mail lists.

The service is a natural extension of Webmail.us’s current offerings, according to Pat Matthews, chief executive. “We’re basically serving our customers’ needs,” he said.

Currently, the company’s clients’ lists generally fall into the 5,000-address range, according to chief technology officer Bill Boebel. “The kind of company I use as an example [of a typical Webmail.us client] is a country club that wants to get information out to its members,” he said.

The new service offers features that help its customers comply with the federal Can-Spam Act, such as one-click unsubscribe capabilities and ISP-relations services. To ensure costumers don’t spam, the company throttles new senders until they can be trusted.

However, if the customer agrees to use fully verified opt-in list building practices, where new registrants receive confirmation e-mails to which they must respond to subscribe, Webmail.us will send mail for the customer without throttling, said Boebel.

He said the service’s current reporting capabilities are limited to delivery metrics. However, he added, other metrics, such as clicks and opens are “in the works.”
