Crain, Draft Named to DMA Hall of Fame

The Direct Marketing Association has inducted Rance Crain, president, Crain Communications Inc. and Howard Draft, executive chairman of Draftfcb, into its Hall of Fame.

Crain began his career as a reporter for Advertising Age in its Washington bureau and later moved to the publication’s New York and Chicago offices.

He founded four of the company’s 31 titles: Pensions & Investments; Crain’s Chicago Business; Crain’s New York Business; and Electronic Media.

He was named senior editor of Advertising Age in 1965, was appointed first editor of Business Insurance in 1967, and became editorial director of Crain Communications in 1971 before becoming company president in 1973.

In 2006, Draft was named chairman/ CEO of Draftfcb after the two agencies joined forces.

Previously, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Draft. As one of the agency’s original 13 founders in 1978, Draft rose rapidly through the ranks, becoming chairman and CEO within 10 years.
