The Postal Regulatory Commission will hold public hearings on the U.S. Postal Service’s proposal to cut Saturday mail delivery. They will be held in Las Vegas, NV; Sacramento, CA; Dallas, TX; Memphis, TN; Chicago, IL; Rapid City, SD and Buffalo, NY.
By law, the Postal Service is required to ask the Commission for an advisory opinion in advance of any change in nationwide service. The PRC said it could take up to nine months to issue this opinion.
Despite the U.S. Postal Service’s desire to cut delivery as a means to save money, doing do would require an act of Congress as well as the PRC’s opinion on the advisability of doing so.
PRC Chair Ruth Goldway has said there may be several other ways to save the USPS money. Click for more http://directmag.com/postal/0423-postal-prc/index.html
