Motorbooks Slim-Jim Expands Product Line
In addition to its typical offerings of books for car enthusiasts, Motorbooks’ fall 2008 catalog expands its product line to include books on several other topics. The slim-jim book is the first of this size tracked from the mailer, which usually sends 5” x 8” catalogs. Of the three products on the cover, "Hemi: Muscle Cars” ($50) is the only one that is automobile-related. Also spotlighted are “Whole Lotta Led Zeppelin: The Illustrated History of the Heaviest Band of All Time” ($40) and “The Harley-Davidson Motor Co. Archive Collection” ($60). Inside, a brand-new table of contents organizes the catalog into sections, such as “Muscle Cars,” “How-To & High Performance,” “Trucks & Heavy Equipment,” as well as “Sports,” “Travel”, and “Music.” Some car titles include “El Camino by Chevrolet” ($24.95) and “American Muscle Supercars” ($35). Other offerings are geared toward a wider audience of enthusiasts such as “American Passenger Trains and Locomotives Illustrated” ($35) and “The American Diner” ($24.95). Orders can be placed by phone, fax, mail, or online.
Paulist Fathers Honor the Saints
Paulist Fathers recently mailed a jumbo package alerting recipients “Do Not Bend – Your Free 2009 Saints Of God Calendar is Enclosed.” The freemium, which includes reproductions of artist renderings of various saints, is visible through a large window on the back, highlighting the painting “Disciples Peter and John Rushing to the Sepulcher on the Morning of the Resurrection.” The calendar and the letter inside explain that the missionary organization was founded in 1857 by Father Isaac Hecker as a response to “God’s call to fulfill his dream of a Catholic America.” A postscript to the letter affirms that although the calendar “is a gift” it is through donations that the Paulists are able to continue their work. A secondary postscript provides a toll-free number which recipients can call for additional calendars. Each month within the calendar features a different saint as well as a key identifying Catholic holidays and feast days as well as secular occasions. The $20/$30/$50/other ask ladder can be found on the “Calendar Response & Prayer Intentions Slip.”
AmeriFile Equips Medical Practices
AmeriFile, a business-to-business seller of office supplies for healthcare practitioners, offers recipients a choice of two incentives in a recent catalog. The cover of the book has a picture of a medical professional with a backdrop of patient files. Several products are also shown as well as a red starburst graphic touting the incentives detailed on the inside front cover. Customers spending $75 or more by a certain date may opt for a $25 discount off their order or a $25 gas card premium on payment. Also promoted on the page is the website AmeriFile.net featuring a new design and improved navigation. The opposite page has a table of contents listing product categories such as file folders, file cabinets, labels, clinical forms, billing, and office furniture. Volume discounts apply to most items in the catalog. For example, Exam Room Stools cost $206.99 each for one or two or $196.99 each for three or more.
