Humane Society Legislative Fund Tackles Animal Fighting
Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) urged donors to help fight animal abuse with a new package that points out the cruelty of staged animal fights. HSLF, a lobbying affiliate of The Humane Society of the United States, is a social welfare organization that works to pass protection laws, to educate the public about current issues and to support humane political candidates. The front of the 6” x 9” package depicts an adult Pit Bull Terrier next to the chilling statement, “… innocent puppies could be raised to kill and maim their brothers or sisters…all for sport and gambling – the love of money. It is time to stop the killing now!” The reverse side presents an image of a rooster and, “Despite laws barring it, cockfighting remains a gruesome activity that must be stopped. Where animal fighting is allowed, other illegal activities flourish.” Inside, a letter asks donors to help the group with their 50-state strategy to pass legislation that would make it a felony just for attending a staged animal fight. Donors are encouraged to sign and return the enclosed petitions to their congress members. The “Urgent Legislative Appeal Reply Form” has an ask ladder of $5/$8/$12/other, with “Five Actions You Can Take for a More Humane Community!” on the reverse.
