Delta Air Lines Adds Diamond Level To Loyalty Program

The 2010 version of Delta Air Lines’ SkyMiles Medallion program will offer participants several changes, including a new Diamond status level.

The 2010 version of Delta Air Lines’ SkyMiles Medallion program will offer participants several changes, including a new Diamond status level.

The revamped program, which will roll out during the next nine months, features the following new features:

Diamond participation level for flyers who earn 125,000 Medallion Qualification Miles, or who fly 140 segments per calendar year. Benefits include a complimentary Delta Sky Club membership: a 125% mileage bonus for purchases; and booking and baggage fee waivers, among other rewards.

A rollover program, under which customers are allowed to carry over all miles earned above the nearest Medallion threshold. (By way of example, silver membership requires 25,000 miles. A flyer who racks up 40,000 miles would carry over 15,000 of them.)

Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members will have ticketing fees waived for all bookings, whether completed by phone, online or in person.

Diamond and Platinum Medallion members will be offered their choice from a menu of benefits, including bonus miles; the ability to gift Medallion status; Delta Sky Club day passes; and new system-wide confirmed upgrade certificates redeemable on the day of departure.

Thresholds for the four Medallion elite status levels are based on miles earned, or flight segments taken. The levels and thresholds are: Silver (25,000 miles, or 30 segments flown); Gold (50,000 miles, or 60 segments); Platinum (75,000 miles, or 100 segments); and the new Diamond tier (125,000 miles, or 140 segments).
