Outdoor products marketer Gander Mountain generated $334.1 million in revenue during fourth-quarter 2008, down from $317.6 million a year earlier. The company’s net income for the quarter was $13 million, up from $5.8 million in fourth-quarter 2007.

For the year, the company pulled in just under $1.1 billion in sales, up from $969.4 million in 2007. Gander Mountain trimmed its net loss from $31.8 million to $15.5 million. Holding down the cost of goods sold, as well as selling, general and administrative expenses, contributed to the company’s fortunes during the quarter and the year.

During the fourth quarter, Gander Mountain racked up $12.1 million in direct sales, up from $5.5 million in fourth-quarter 2007. The increase in direct sales was attributed to the startup of the new Gander Direct Internet and catalog operations during third-quarter 2008 and the inclusion of Overton's, which was acquired in December 2007, for the full quarter in fiscal 2008.
