Gander Mountain, a retailer which offers outdoor activity supplies, apparel and footwear, generated $248.4 million during its second quarter, down from $252.9 million in second quarter 2008.
The company’s overall net loss for the quarter was $7.3 million, deeper than the $4.9 million it took a year earlier. The quarter ended Aug. 1.
The company pulled in $37.6 million through its direct segment, down from $39.7 million a year ago. But its direct operations were profitable, generating $1.7 million in operating income during the quarter, although not quite as profitable as when they earned $2 million in operating income a year ago.
Gander Mountain’s retail segment did not fare as well. Retail sales were $210.8 million, down from $213.1 million a year earlier. But retail took a net loss of $9.1 million, deeper than the $6.8 million loss it recorded a year earlier.
The company attributed its losses in part to exiting its PowerSports business, as well as increased marketing efforts.
