Direct sales for J.Crew Group rose during the company’s fourth quarter, coming in 13% higher than in fourth-quarter 2008. Not bad, but total retail sales were up 23% during the same period, and even comparable store sales rose 17%.
Here’s how that broke down in dollars: Total store sales for the quarter were $311.1 million (the company didn’t break out same-store sales), while direct sales, including the Internet and telephone channels, were $139.2 million.
For the quarter, the company recorded net income of $40.4 million on total sales of $460.6 million, compared with a net loss of $13.5 million a year earlier on sales of $388 million.
For the year, the company generated $.156 million in revenue, up 11% from 2008’s results. The company recorded $123.4 million in net income for the year, more than double the $54.1 million it pulled in a year earlier.
Store sales increased 14% to $1.11 billion, with comparable store sales increasing 4%. Direct sales increased 5% to $428.2 million.
